Gichner Shelter Systems can provide
an expandable shelter to meet every need. In general,
expandable shelters provide large internal spaces while
maintaining standard shipping dimensions. Expandable
shelters can be classified in three basic types by the
expansion method used. The first type is a true expandable
shelter. These shelters are self-contained, and include
everything needed to expand for use. They generally
fold out on one or both sides to double or triple the
unexpanded floor space. An example of this type is Gichner's
Expandable shelter. The second type is complexable and
requires the use of two or more shelters to expand to
a larger floor space.
The third type is a knockdown shelter. These shelters
are transported as panels and are erected on site to
provide extremely large interior space. The Modular
Extendable Rigid Wall Shelter (MERWS) is an example
of this type. This shelter packs within a 20 foot ISO
shelter and when erected, provides for up to 1150 square
feet of unobstructed floor space. Gichner Shelter Systems
is the only manufacturer that can offer this variety
of expandable shelter.
