GICHNER EMPLOYEES CELEBRATE SUCCESSFUL
COMPLETION AND PASSING OF LMS SHELTER FIRST ARTICLE TESTING.
Dallastown, Pennsylvania – May
5th 2006 - Gichner Shelter Systems, a division of Gichner
Systems Group LLC, and a world leader in the design, development
and production of tactical and logistic shelters and shelter
systems, received notification from the US Army Natick,
that the Army has accepted and approved Gichner's First
Article test report for the S-788 Type I and Type III LMS
shelters.
The S-788 also known as the Lightweight, Multipurpose Shelter
(LMS) is a lightweight, high strength enclosure designed
specifically for use on the HMMWV. Selected by the United
States Army as its primary electronics platform for wheeled
tactical vehicles, the S-788 LMS contains the latest advances
in shelter design technology.
In September of 2004, the US Army awarded a contract to
Gichner for the design, development, testing and manufacture
of S-788 Type I, and Type III shelters. These shelters were
to be designed and tested to the requirements of a new specification,
ASTM PS 138-03. This specification represents the total
conversion from a Military Specification and drawing package
to an industry specification and outline drawing. Upon completion
of this effort, Gichner became the only manufacturer to
have qualified the S-788 shelter under all three specifications
MIL-S-44408, MIL-PRF-44408, and ASTM PS 138-03.
